15 Days with the Porsche Design P’6930 Chronograph

The Porsche Design P’6930 Chronograph arrived yesterday and I have been wearing it now for about one full day.

A few brief details about my guest for the next two weeks - the P’6930 Chronograph is one of Porsche Design's newest offerings.  It is titanium with what could be described as a two-tone effect as the bezel, crown and bezel screws (I'm sure that there is a more appropriate, more technical term) are black PVD.

The movement is the Valjoux 7750, the case itself is 47 mm across and 15.58 mm in height (i.e. from the bottom of the watch to the top).

It is a three-register chronograph with a 30 minute counter at 12:00, a 12 hour counter at 6, and the normal "regular" second indicator at 9 - leaving the main chronograph hand (i.e. the "stop-watch" hand) is located with the main hour and minute hand - in other words, a traditional orientation.

Here is a press photo of the P’6930

Right out of the box, I was able to set the time, gently hand-wind it 10 - 15 times, and then screw the crown back in and begin wearing it.  That's right - a screw down crown.  I know that there is some mixed opinion out there, but I personally like this feature even though this is not a dive watch.  And yes, that was sufficient winding to get the movement going, and the watch ran steadily throughout the night and was ready to go at 6:30 this morning.

Make no mistake, this is a large watch.  Having said that, owing to it's titanium construction, it is light on the wrist and quite comfortable.  Another factor adding to this comfort is the rubber strap.  It is soft and forgiving, not stiff or rough like some others out there.  And because the strap is rubber, it provides a better option for a watch of this size as the rubber will contour more to the wrist than leather or a bracelet.

Another first impression is the "depth of field" that the watch face provides.  The dial, sub-dials, indices and hands all add a true 3-dimensional look and feel.  More on this in coming reports, but it is quite pleasing to look at.

These are just some opening comments, there will be another update this evening.  But so far, so good!

Tune in later tonight (Pacific Time) for more.
