The Transfer Window has Opened...

At Linde Werdelin.

Now before you get to excited, this is essentially an internal transfer/promotion.

This is the announcement -

Appointment of new Sales Director

Linde Werdelin has seen unprecedented developments in recent years. Amidst the strong growth and exciting momentum, I am delighted to welcome Alexandre David as the Sales Director of Linde Werdelin.

The appointment was made, with immediate effect, following Alexandre’s role as Distributor for Europe from the start of 2014. He is responsible for managing our distribution and retail partners worldwide.

Alexandre has an extensive background in distribution and business management for over 18 years. Notably in recent years, Alexandre managed the international retail network as Chief Commercial Officer at MB&F and, prior to that, was CEO of Ikepod from 2008 to 2012, where he was credited with repositioning the brand and building its strong presence across the world.

Alexandre’s depth of experience and contacts in the Swiss watch industry will bring new insights to help drive growth for Linde Werdelin and expand our global network. His appointment will also allow me to develop more meaningful relationships with our distribution partners, media partners, and valued customers going forward.

So as the transfer window begins to open, prepare your scorecard to follow all of the action!  While this is good news for Mr. David, there are some very uncomfortable conversations taking place in Switzerland, Germany and points west.  Resumes are being updated, and suddenly, almost like magic, calls are being returned and emails being responded to.  Nothing like a dash of anxiety to improve communication ; )

I kid, a little.  It's a hard world out there, even in the luxury watch business.

SpidoLite II Tech from Linde Werdelin

This just in from Linde Werdelin -

A Technical Development of the Spido Case at BaselWorld 2013 (Le Palace)

LINDE WERDELIN launches the SpidoLite II Tech in two series of 75 pieces each. The main development of these two series is a new case in Alloy Linde Werdelin “ALW”, carbon, ceramic, gold and a ceramic coating for titanium.

During the last two years LINDE WERDELIN has tested and developed new materials and composites that best suit the purpose of each LINDE WERDELIN timepiece. The new SpidoLite II Tech is a result of this experimental approach.

Aspiring to achieve a lighter and stronger case, LINDE WERDELIN has focused on the combination of two new materials for the inner and outer case. For weight reduction the new "ALW", a strong composite of metals, has been conceived for the inner case, while the outer case is crafted in forged carbon. The inner and outer case and the bezel have undergone numerous tolerance tests to find the optimal relation between the three materials. A further challenge has been to establish the correct balance between the strength and lightness of the skeletonised carbon case.

The new SpidoLite II Tech is released in two series:

 SpidoLite II Tech Gold - ALW inner case with skeletonised outer case in forged carbon and an 18 karat rose gold bezel and crown.

 SpidoLite II Tech Green - ALW inner case with skeletonised outer case in forged carbon with ceramic bezel and titanium crown treated with a ceramic coating.

A Few Minutes with Morten Linde

As with many great brands, Linde Werdelin is really a collaboration.  In this case between Creative Director Morten Linde and his colleague Jorn Werdelin.  So now a few minutes with the "design side" of Linde Werdelin, Morten Linde.
Courtesy of Linde Werdelin
Tempus Fugit - What was your first watch?  Was it a gift?  Is there a story behind it?

Morten Linde - I received a mechanical watch when I was 18 years old.  It was a gift and I later gave it to my son.

TF - When you were a boy, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?

ML - I’ve always had a creative mind. At 17, I discovered The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts while I was in the process of applying for University and realised I wanted to be a designer.

TF - What are some of the things you did prior to entering the watch industry?

ML - Product design - some of which has been award winning, I also set up my own studio and worked on renewed Danish and international brands.

TF - While you are a well-known designer, you were not always involved in watch design - what got you started?  What are some of the special challenges in designing a watch?

ML - Prior to the creation of Linde Werdelin I did indeed design other watches and I have always felt affection for this long lasting and valuable object.  I started this company with Jorn, whom I’ve known since I was at school and we shared the same interests. Some of the particular challenges are given by the ability of combining different elements of a watch such as case, dial, movement, crown, bezel etc… and make the timepiece work forever.

TF - Your partner in this enterprise, Jorn Werdelin is known as both an entrepreneur and a free spirit - how does your working relationship work?

ML - It works great, as we are long-time friends with the same shared passion for watches.

TF - What is it that makes Linde Werdelin special?

ML - We have a strong DNA and our products have a strong personality - we are a  free spirited company.

TF - What is a typical day in the life of Morten Linde?

ML - I spend most of the day in the office, working on design and overseeing the Image of the brand.  I liaise all day with London (our marketing department).  Ultimately but most importantly I take care of my  family.

TF - I realize it might be difficult, but what is your favourite Linde Werdelin?

ML - I am always passionate about the watch I am working on right now.

TF - What are some of the challenges facing Linde Werdelin?

ML - To keep on doing as well as we are doing now.

TF - What are Linde Werdelin's strongest markets?

ML - Are strongest markets right now are Asia and the US.

TF - How do you see Linde Werdelin developing in the coming years?

ML - Exploring and being innovative with more materials and movements.

TF - What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

ML - Spending time with my family, skiing and always working!

TF - If you weren't involved with what you're doing with Linde Werdelin, what do you think you might be doing?

ML - Nothing else.

TF - What advice do you have for the next Morten Linde out there?

ML - Be true to yourself, do whatever you think is right but know how to work with other people.

Linde Werdelin's New Red SpidoLite II Series

This just in from Linde Werdelin -

SpidoLite II Titanium Red is the second series of the new family of three released in December 2012. Limited to 75 piece, this new addition presents a striking red dial with black DLC details.
The original skeletonised titanium case construction, produced with weight reduction technology, makes this piece ideal for high altitude sports experience. The outer case and certain facets have undergone microbillé and satin finish, while the inner case, crown and screws have undergone black DLC treatment.

The dial consists of two skeletonized layers. The Côtes de Genève lower dial carries the LINDE WERDELIN logo.
Courtesy of Linde Werdelin

The upper dial bears the red and luminova indexes, the numerals of the seconds’ sub-dial at 9 o'clock and the date function.

The numerals of the skeletonised black calendar wheel have been amplified, enhancing date readability. The laser-cut date disk blends with the dial and the titanium and satin finish hands.
The LW 04, caliber 2251, powers the SpidoLite II Titanium Red, custom- made by Concepto; independent movement manufacture based in La Chaux de Fonds. The movement is visible through the dial as well as through the sapphire crystal case- back. On the front and back of the movement it’s finished with a circular perlage and engraved with the Spido logo.

Courtesy of Linde Werdelin

The black rotor bears a red LINDE WERDELIN icon.
All the screws in the movement are blued steel and have been implemented because of their high anti-corrosion properties and to enhance the beauty of the movement. The result is achieved with a slow and cautious heating process.

SpidoLite II Titanium Red is available in a limited series of 75 pieces, retailing at CHF 10,700 exclusive of VAT, from December 2012 from any LW authorized retailer in local currency and on LindeWerdelin.com.

THE IDEA

SpidoLite II is a true testament to supreme craftsmanship and architecture of the most technically-complex watch case design. Featuring Linde Werdelin's signature fully skeletonised case and dial construction inspired by F1 car's weight reduction technology, the SpidoLite II is crafted in titanium to further reduce weight yet in a robust structure making it fit for even extreme altitude sports.

The SpidoLite II is produced individually with superb precision engineering in multiple layers, adding depth to a 3-dimensional skeletonised experience, revealing a beautifully finished custom-made automatic movement in the heart, as well as an in-house designed rotor bearing the LW logo through the clear sapphire crystal case back. A Rose Gold SpidoSpeed from Linde Werdelin

Courtesy of Linde Werdelin
This is the latest from Linde Werdelin - a SpidoSpeed conceived of rose gold.  As we have come to expect from Linde Werdelin, this is a watch that does more than tell the time.  It speaks on a truly emotional level.  As has often been said when looking at an amazing piece of architecture, you realize that even a brick wants to be more!  For the SpidoSpeed we can say that even a watch case wants to be more.

Courtesy of Linde Werdelin

And here in their own words -

Much of the detailing and construction of the SpidoSpeed bear references from the racing car industry. It is designed with a complex fully skeletonised case and multiple-layered dial structure to bring you an all-round 3-dimensional experience.

Courtesy of Linde Werdelin
Powered by an upscale bespoke chronograph movement, this model comes with a SpidoSpeed black alligator strap and an ardillion buckle in solid rose gold. Only 100 pieces in Series A are available worldwide.

Linde Werdelin's SpidoSpeed Anthracite DLC

Courtesy of Linde Werdelin
LINDE WERDELIN watches and instruments are excited for the arrival of the latest version of its chronograph model, SpidoSpeed Anthracite DLC.
Achieving a uniform ‘Anthracite’ shade for the full series of SpidoSpeed Anthracite DLC in 100 pieces was an extremely challenging procedure.

Courtesy of Linde Werdelin
The result of the Diamond-Like-Carbon treatment, also known as DLC, is an anthracite grey nuance, which conceives a major sense of depth to the case, conveying the best 3-dimensional experience, typical of the Spido family.
Courtesy of Linde Werdelin
SpidoSpeed Anthracite DLC will retail at € 10,300 exclusive of VAT from mid-January on LindeWerdelin.com or from any LW authorised retailer in local currency.
