In all honesty, I was not acquainted with Schaefer and Companions until meeting Christophe Schaefer at the close of New York Watch Week.

With that said, it was nice to learn more about what he is up to and his watches are something a bit different, a bit special.

The watch above is the Solune Grand Art Solaris Straw Marquetry. It is a joint effort highlighting the engraving work of Boris Nemitz.

The Baroncelli Heritage

While I pride myself on my knowledge of all things Mido, I was surprised to learn that 2016 marks the 40th anniversary of the Baroncelli.

The case is 39 mm of polished 316L stainless steel goodness with a transparent case back.  The Baroncelli Heritage features a truly striking black dial with a finish described as "grained".  In terms of movements, it is the Mido 1192 (based on the ETA 2892A2) that keeps things moving.

But it is the thickness or lack thereof that make the Baroncelli Heritage truly striking - a petite 6.95 mm, it is "whippet thin".

Movement      

Automatic Mido 1192 (ETA 2892A2 base), 11½’’’, Ø25.60 mm, height: 3.60 mm, 21 jewels, 28,800 vph, NIVAFLEX NM 

mainspring, NIVAROX II balance-spring. Finely decorated elaborate movement with blued screws, oscillating weight 

decorated with Geneva stripes and Mido logo. Functions: HMSD. Adjusted on 4 different positions for high accuracy. Min. 

42 hours of power reserve.

Case              

Polished 316L stainless steel, Ø39 mm, exceptional thickness: 6.95 mm, 3 pieces, sapphire crystal with an anti‑reflecting 

treatment on both sides, transparent case back with sapphire crystal revealing the finely decorated elaborate movement, 

engraved serial number, water-resistant up to a pressure of 3 bars (30 m / 100 ft).

Bracelet          

Semi-matt black calfskin with crocodile look, stainless steel pin buckle.

Dial                

Black, grained, Baroncelli Heritage logo at 6 o’clock, date at 3 o’clock.

Hands            

Rhodium-plated, double-sided hour and minute hands (one side sandblasted, one side diamond-cut), diamond‑cut 

seconds hand.

Roberto Carlos and Milus

This just in from Milus -

Roberto Carlos has become the latest Milus “friend of the brand.” The star footballer visited the company booth at the Geneva Time Exhibition on January 22 and is now the happy owner of a Tirion TriRetrograde TIRI017.

During his scintillating career, Carlos, whose speed and stunning curved shots earned him world-wide admiration, played for the Brazilian national team during for three World Cups.

After eleven years with Real Madrid, he went on to captain Dagestan’s Anzhi Makhatchkala team, which he continues to coach after retiring from active football in August 2012.

The TriRetrograde mechanism

A Milus exclusive, the 3838 TriRetrograde mechanism displays the seconds on three separate arcs at 6, 9 and 3 o'clock. The three hands travel twenty seconds successively, each "passing the torch" to the next one and returning with lightning speed to its point of departure. This great animated ballet, which keeps repeating itself tirelessly, makes the passage of time a playful and fascinating spectacle.
