The DBF004 'montre anniversaire 230 ans'

Here's the scoop, straight from the source -

230 years of passion for watches, history, craftsmanship and innovation.

DuBois et fils is celebrating this historically significant moment with the launch of a very limited anniversary collection, the DBF004 'montre anniversaire 230 ans'. 'It is already remarkable to be one of the oldest Swiss watch brands, but to celebrate 230 years of Swiss watchmaking artistry without interruption in the production is truly unique and a great honour for us', says Thomas Steinemann, CEO of the 1785 founded traditional watchmaking house. Elaborately crafted with attention to detail, the puristic designed anniversary model has the potential to become a limited edition classic for aficionados of authentic watches.

With its round, multi-piece case (44 mm) made from high-quality stainless steel 316L, the bridge on the side and the notched bezel, the DBF004 'montre anniversaire 230 ans' clearly bears the signature design and personal touch of DuBois et fils. The sense for form and aesthetics, beauty and quality is also reflected in the dial which has been reduced to the essential. The purist maintained design of the blue high-gloss painted dial – two hands, a small seconds counter and elegant, hand-appliqued indices – punctuates the harmonious appearance of the DBF004. The Swiss hand-wound movement RECORD 662 from the 1960s can be seen through the double sided anti-reflective coated sapphire glass base. 'We intentionally chose a vintage hand-wound movement, which is no longer produced today, as the heart of our anniversary model. Beating in the DBF004 'montre anniversaire 230 ans' is another piece of Swiss watch history, a symbol of the rich watchmaking heritage of DuBois et fils, says Steinemann.

A hand-crafted, brown strap made of the finest calf leather rounds off the timeless beauty of the timepiece's outer appearance.

The anniversary collection is available in three different dial versions (blue, anthracite and ivory) and in line with the house's long tradition is limited to 99 editions per version.

The DBF004 models with the according personal Limited Edition number are now available in the DuBois et fils Online Shop  and can be ordered at selected retailers. The sales price is 6,950 Swiss francs.

A Ladies Watch from DuBois et fils

“In the crowd funding process we have found out that not only men have become shareholders of DuBois et fils. The desire for women’s models had appeared very quickly, and we fulfilled it. The ladies’ models might also interest some men as a present for their beloved ones”, says Thomas Steinemann. Almost 600 male and female watch friends have bought the company’s stock and have deposited a total amount of 1.5 million Swiss francs. With the money the production of the new and strictly limited collection will be financed.

And so to that end, today DuBois et fils announced their latest creation - something for women.

The Next Step for the New DuBois et fils

This just in from DuBois et fils -

The second model of DuBois et fils is another step to restart the brand, which currently makes it possible for watch lovers to join the company via crowd funding and to become a part of the oldest watch factory in Switzerland. With concept TWO DuBois et fils presents a chronograph that brings back the best memories of the 70s. Powered by a Valjoux 7750, concept TWO focuses on the most trusted chronograph movement and the contemporary best drive from Switzerland. In addition to the dial with orange accents, the case provides a visual match between the matt sunray bezel and the polished body.

The housing material is 316L stainless steel. Under the sapphire crystal, the dial shows a guilloche honeycomb pattern, the recessed totalisers of the chronograph and the running seconds are milled. With the orange luminous material the hands and indexes are equipped in style. Date and day display are matching the dial with white letters on a black background. The second model of DuBois et fils has a more sporty look than the first watch concept ONE.

"The new model reminds of the 70s, a difficult time for the mechanical watch. At that time, the quartz flood came with an enormous price decline that caused many problems for companies and factories," says Thomas Steinemann, owner and CEO of DuBois et fils. Since 1785 DuBois et fils is producing watches in Switzerland, however the concept is completely new: watch lovers can purchase one of the various shareholder packages and therefore become part of the oldest watch factory in Switzerland. At the same time the shareholders have the privilege to buy the new watches which are limited to 99 pieces per model at a reduced price.

Wednesday - Anything Can Happen Day

Okay, I realize that not all of you had the benefit of sitting in a Northern Ohio living room in the dead of winter watching 20 year old, black and white re-runs of the Mickey Mouse Club.  Moreover, probably not realizing they were re-runs because you had a black and white television!  But every day had a theme - and Wednesday was (and for me still is) "Anything Can Happen Day".

So in the spirit of that, ask yourself this question -
How would you like to own a watch company... or at least a stake in one?

Then allow me to introduce you to the man who could help make your dream a reality!  This is Thomas Steinemann who recently took the reins at DuBois et Fils.

And this is not any old watch company - these are some folks with some historical "bona fidas" - DuBois et Fils has what is reputed to be the oldest watch factories - and a very long tradition of making watches as well, going back as far as 1751!

Don't believe me?  Check this out -

Okay, so that's the old.  So what?  There are plenty of old watch houses out there.

Well, in 2010 Thomas Steinemann became the owner of DuBois et Fils.  But instead of just going on as before, he and his team decided to take the time to really study the situation, and they temporarily ceased production and distribution.  And now they are preparing to re-launch in 2013 with a whole new approach.  There will be a somewhat new look and feel to DuBois et Fils including a new logo, a new marketing and distribution strategy and of course - new watches.

This is not going to be mass production - these will be limited edition models only, fewer than 100 pieces per model.

So what?  What's this got to do with me?  I'm glad you asked!

Through a "Crowd Funding" project, DuBois et Fils is offering different levels of share purchase options.

The one clear benefit is the opportunity to purchase DuBois et Fils watches directly from the factory at a minimum discount of 50% off of the retail price.  So it would seem that membership does have its privileges.
