Something for Carmen

So as many of you know, I am a teacher/social worker by day.  And yesterday at an all day staff meeting, my colleague Carmen asked about whether or not I wrote about watches for women.  Although I am clearly not the target demographic, I do cover the ladies selections from time to time.

The ARCEAU Chrono Titane

The case measures 41 mm in diameter and is of bead-blasted Titanium (grade 2).  The dial is described as "Galvanic" black, with white Arabic numbers.  The movement is self-winding (mechanical) and is Swiss made.

Hours, minutes, seconds and date.  The chronograph functions include the running seconds at 3 o'clock, a 30 minute counter at 9 o'clock and a 12 hour counter at 6 o'clock.  

The strap can be had in either Natural Barenia calfskin, or black embossed Barenia calfskin.

Based on the original design (1978) of Henri d’Origny, Hermes has an exciting SIHH preview with this one.

152 diamonds flawlessly united to adorn the Faubourg Joaillerie's 16.3 mm 750 white gold case.

The dial is also of white gold, and features 112 diamonds, the bracelet is graced with 288 diamonds.

The movement is quartz, providing hours and minutes.

Access to culture for underprivileged children 

In Dallas, Texas, the Cara Mía Theatre Co. works to expand horizons for tomorrow’s young adults. The School of YES! is a mobile academy offering a wide range of artistic activities, helping children to discover new alternatives for their future.

How best to combat the ill effects of social determinism? Founded in Dallas, in 1996, the Cara Mía Theatre Co. promotes arts and culture from around the world through The School of YES!, encouraging underprivileged children to take a proactive approach in their own lives, quite literally saying ‘Yes!’ to the future of their choice through access to cultural activities  often otherwise beyond their reach.

The School of YES! offers residencies and workshops in Dallas throughout the school year, followed by a summer camp, for underprivileged children aged 7 to 14. The mobile academy enables children to study theatre, music, dance, the visual arts, personal development and urban planning – activities otherwise unavailable in their schools or neighbourhoods.

The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès supports the programme’s recognition of the importance of skills training and creative know-how for enhanced personal development in a multicultural context.

2014 saw the launch of the programme’s first large-scale summer camp, providing free activities and accommodation for fifty children. Nine students aged 15 and up were chosen to train as Youth Leaders, receiving paid placements as supervisors and activity leaders for the youngest camp members, and producing a documentary film charting the progress of the children over the summer. The summer session ended with a large group production, performed in public.   

The project is supported by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès as part of its H³ programme (Head – Heart – Hand)
