From Panerai.
It is official, this is the shit that killed Elvis!
Although the folks in the press office are very keen to have you know that they are spending mere millions to get their name on the sails of the ORACLE TEAM USA and SOFTBANK TEAM JAPAN boats, I personally think they could get more mileage by making a donation to the extremely important work being done by Mercy Ships. Just a suggestion ; )
At any rate, this new release is actually very, very exciting. I am mostly interested in the movement and the promise of a movement that Panerai is guaranteeing for 50 years.
In their own words -
The case is made of Carbotech. Again, in Panerai's words -
The Luminor 1950 case – 49 mm in diameter – is made of carbotech, a composite material based on carbon fibre, which was introduced into the world of watchmaking by Panerai. As well as ensuring exceptional technical performance, carbotech has a dense, uneven blackness which varies with the cut of the material, making each individual example different from all the rest, and unrepeatable.
MOVEMENT
Hand-wound mechanical, P.3001/C calibre, executed entirely by Panerai.
FUNCTIONS
Hours,
minutes, small seconds, power reserve indicator on the back, seconds reset.
CASE
49 mm, carbotech.
DIAL
Deep black with luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers. Small seconds at 9 o’clock.
POWER RESERVE
72H.
WATER-RESISTANCE
10 bar (~100 metres)

P.3001/C Calibre
The skillful use of different materials and coatings based on CARBON have enabled friction between the components of the movement to be reduced to a minimum. There are only four jewels and no external lubrication is needed. The watch is GUARANTEED FOR 50 YEARS.*The case is made of Carbotech. Again, in Panerai's words -

While the case represents new technology and people get excited about any watch case material with the word carbon in the name, for me (and I suspect many of my colleagues) what is interesting is the technological advances of the movement. And I am looking forward to hearing more about it.
