As most of you have probably already heard, Rolex has promoted one of their own to be the steward
of their operations. Gian Riccardo Marini who came up through the ranks, most recently as the Managing Director of Rolex Italy. Bruno Meier was in charge since 2008.
A great deal of mystique surrounds the big luxury brands - particularly in the watch industry with its history of family ownership and marriages serving to (quite literally) make larger watch making houses with the "merger" of two formerly independent brands. To this end, a lot of people out there are surprised by this sudden change at Rolex. But look at this in modern terms - some times a manager is brought in to create a change with the intention that they will only be there for the short term, to set the stage so to speak. This indeed could be the situation here, with Mr. Marini now seen as the long-term manager.
I wish the best of success to Mr. Meier in his future endeavors and as well to Mr. Marini as he takes the helm.
