Things used to be different. You joined a company, you worked there, you retired, and you were given a watch. This is one of those watches -
This watch was given to Wendy's father Len as recognition for his years of service to his company. A Longines Ultra Chron. This was passed on to Wendy back in 92 and she has faithfully looked after it ever since.
Let's hope all of these watches have such dedicated care-givers.
So this is an open call - who out there has there parent's/grandparent's watch? I would love to post your watches and the stories that go with them here - so don't be shy! Apparently there are quite a few of you visitors out there from all over the world - so email me your watches and your stories! Be sure to include your name, the story of the watch and where you're from!

Just to expand on the story, the watch was given to me in 1993, for my 25th birthday. Sadly, my father had passed away just the month before so was not able to give it to me in person but it was fitting as he'd received the watch for 25 years of service to Horner pharmaceuticals, He was given a second Longines upon retirement, which I believe was after 45 years with the company (they also gave him a VW Rabbit-- loyalty pays off!) and that was given to one of my brothers. When I wear the watch, I feel his hand on my wrist-- and it is a source of true comfort.
ReplyDeleteFor many folks, a watch is simply a way to tell time (and, in this age of computers and cell phones, it seems more and more people are not even wearing a watch anymore-- how crazy is that?) but for those of us for whom a watch may tell a story, time indeed can be fleeting so hold on to the memory...
