The Mechanica Bi-Compax

From DONE  -

Courtesy of Done

This is the latest offering from DONE, a bi-compax slightly skeletonized chronograph.

Otherwise known as the Mechanica B-Compax, it is currently a pre-order item (on the plus side? pre-order priced).

Courtesy of DONE

Here are the pertinents -

Case:
Machined in 316L stainless steel (1.4435), the case measures 40 mm in diameter with a total thickness of 14.20 mm (only 9.25 mm without the sapphire crystals). Its two “box” sapphire crystals, extra-hard and anti-reflective, ensure optimal readability and exceptional scratch resistance. Designed to last, the watch is water-resistant to 10 ATM / 100 meters.

Movement:
The La Joux-Perret L111 bi-compax calibre, personalized in the “DONE Skeleton” version, displays hours, minutes, and seconds, with date at 6 o’clock and a 30-minute chronograph. Beating at 4 Hz (28,800 A/h), it offers a 60-hour power reserve and features a column-wheel chronograph system. Its anthracite/ruthenium finishes, decorated with Geneva stripes, skeletonized date disc, and a signed “DONE” oscillating weight, demonstrate a meticulous attention to detail.

Strap:
The strap is made from FKM rubber, both durable and comfortable. It features a quick-release system with spring bars and measures 20/18 mm in width and 115/70 mm in length, perfectly balanced on the wrist. It is paired with a 316L steel deployant clasp, elegantly signed DONE.

Dial and Hands:
The sapphire dial has a double-sided anti-reflective coating. Its black opaline flange is enhanced with Super-Luminova BGW9 Grade A at each hour marker, ensuring excellent visibility in the dark. A silicone gasket beneath the dial acts as a shock-absorbing system, reinforcing the watch’s overall durability. The faceted, diamond-cut hands, also filled with Super-Luminova BGW9 Grade A, complete the ensemble beautifully.

The 417 ES

From Hanhart -

I was noodling around on Facebook this morning and discovered that there is a new chronograph from Hanhart.
This is the 417 ES.  It is a very handsome throwback to an iconic piece.
Courtesy of Hanhart

The 417 ES is a hand-wound, bi-compax chronograph. The case is of stainless steel and it measures 42 mm in diameter.

Courtesy of Hanhart
The movement is from Sellita, noted as the SW 510 M.
Courtesy of Hanhart

Hanhart has, over the past 8 years Hanhart has thrilled and disappointed in equal measures. A few bumps along the way, more than a few sets of hands on the wheel, and a few hops back and forth across the Swiss/German border.

And hopefully this latest piece is going to be successful for them.

It is competitively priced at 1,744 Euro but you cannot order direct if you are from the US. Should you be in the US you will need to order from Hanhart's US distributor/sole retail partner.

Timing...continued

Okay, so far in terms of overall time keeping, the Hanhart has held steady at + 2 seconds per day since the 15 day review started.   That is +2 seconds EVERY DAY folks - i.e. phenomenally accurate and no deviations from that "going rate"!

It goes without saying that a quartz watch is always going to be more accurate.  Which begs the question, why would you want a mechanical watch?  Of course we crave the mechanical aspects, that human hands have created and crafted our watch, and that human hands again will service it.  That the watch, even if slow or fast has it's unique characteristics.  But when you have a mechanical watch - and a chronograph at that - with such great time keeping it is something altogether different - and wonderful!

So far, so very, VERY GOOD!
