Comfort - this is perhaps one of the most neglected aspects of watch design. In this day and age where watches are really more and more of a luxury (let's face it, you can get the time from your phone, your laptop - and for the more enterprising of you out there, the sun!)
Is the silly thing even comfortable to wear?
To be fair, I had already gotten a pretty good idea as to how the straps of the Hanhart Pioneer series felt when I visited the Hanhart booth at BaselWorld - but truth be told, the wearing "experience" still represented the great unknown to me. It has sometimes been the case that something that looks tough, durable - and dare I say it - "manly" sometimes feels that way as well - and not in a good way!
I would love to tell you all out there that I'm a big, bad, tough adventurer of "daring-do", but in fact this would be a bit of fabrication. I like things to be comfortable, I enjoy driving the speed limit, and I try to say "please" and "thank-you". So as you can well imagine, the idea of something painful to wear is a bit off-putting, no matter what my "inner bad-ass" is trying to whisper in my ear.
The straps that Hanhart has provided for the Pioneer series are wonderfully comfortable. Yes, they have the rugged good looks that you would expect to match the watch itself, but the leather while thick, is pliable. Though it is stitched, you would never know this on the underside. It is smooth!
I sincerely appreciate that Hanhart is "keeping it real" while bearing in mind that we are not all carved from stone - as much as we'd like to think that we are!
