I am a fan of Saarinen's work, and I do truly love Atomic Age design aesthetics. Add into the bargain that I've written a book about the Vulcain Cricket and the Presidents of the United States and you might assume that this one is right up my street.
There is a lot to like about Vulcain historically. I own two Crickets and I have been fortunate enough to spend time with Michel Ditisheim and Keijo Paajanen, and have visited Vulcain HQ on four separate occasions. But there is a feeling of what I can only call "grasping" in some of the things that are coming out of Le Locle these past few years.
The ill-fated Cricket Salute collaboration (still not sold through after how many years?) is a haunting reminder that you can underestimate your audience, in turn over-estimating your market. The same for the Cricket Didixein, which curious to relate? The two family members that I spoke with had no idea the watch had been made.
But back to the matter at hand. Yes, it is an interesting idea - a clock with 3 separate clocks within. Offering (I would assume) the potential for three separate timezones. But in honesty, like the Vulcain Salute it seems more of a gimmick than an actual product. Sorry, that's my take on it.
But I also realize that this is just my opinion, and as we all know, opinions are like backsides, everyone has one ; )
