The Settimana Limited

From ochs und junior -

A long time ago, about 3 months after I had launched Tempus Fugit I stumbled upon a small little project that was partnering with Embassy Jewelers in Lucerne and Ludwig Oechslin to make a couple of watches, one of which was marketed as, believe it or don't, a kid's watch -

I have always loved this idea - the seven days of the week spaced out in a way that is somewhat understandable - six days that pass in a fairly standard fashion, and then that one day of the week that you wish would go on and on forever. Maybe Saturday, who knows, maybe Friday, but the point being that one day that you stretch is to be savored.

As I said, this was designed and executed as a kid's watch, and I was always a bit sad about that, as it is definitely a watch I would buy if it came just a wee bit bigger.  But for those who don't mind a slightly smaller size - 36 mm, ochs und junior have brought it back in a limited series in three different color codes including cocomero (below);

And last but not least, marrone -

As mentioned, this is a limited series and available by pre order directly from ochs und junior.

The price is indicated at CHF 3'300 — Incl. 7.7% VAT.
CHF 3'046 — Export price.  And my understanding that each version is limited to 11 pieces each.
Here is a breakdown of the functions, along with the pertinents straight from ochs und junior -

Reading the functions

The settimana brings the focus to the 7 days of the week by way of a rotating dot located between of 1 o’clock (Monday) to 7 o’clock (Sunday). At the beginning of the week, the dot moves quickly to cover the segment 8 to 12 o’clock restarting the new week each Monday morning.

Mechanics

The 7-weekday module invented by Dr. Ludwig Oechslin consists of the following components.

  1. Brass dial with functional back
  2. Gear with weekday display (point)
  3. Triple function wheel with seven teeth for each weekday
  4. Transmission wheel

The Settimana is powered by the SW 200-1 movement furnished by Sellita SA.

The settimana is produced and assembled by ochs und junior in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
