A lot of lost brands out there. Brands that have lost their way, lost their understanding of who they are or who they could be.
Girard-Perregaux has been drifting. There is no nice way to say it. But in every bad situation there is always the possibility of opportunity.
Well, the Laureato could be one such opportunity for GP.
The Laureato ticks a lot of important boxes for a brand that is trying to resurrect itself. And as anyone who has followed this blog will know, I have a love / hate relationship with GP.
I admire the Macaluso's continued involvement and efforts. I do not understand, even a little bit, the wholesale changes that were made when the marketing and PR departments were cleared out, and the new "emperor" came in. And in fairness, this particular emperor is BUTT NAKED.
Since the new boss took over they have made some wonderful watches, and made some real clangers as well. And like the worst kind of tinkerers, they cannot seem to sit still and wait for things to work. Ego can hurt you, and in this case it can hurt a lot of other people as well.
But there is SOOOOOO much potential here, and particularly with a wonderful watch like the Laureato. If GP could just gently pump the brakes, look at some key product families such as this, and focus on making watches that actual customers might actually want to actually buy...
But for now, let's focus on the positives, and hope that the folks at GP will as well!
