Iconic - the Royal Oak

Courtesy of Audemars Piguet

There are very few pieces that continue to stand the test of time.  Year in and year out there might be some changes or a new version, but you know it when you see it - often from a hundred yards away.

Audemars Piguet continues to lead the way in innovation and cutting edge design, but it is without a doubt something that has been in their collection for years now that still captures the imagination.

The Royal Oak is certainly one of those pieces.  In many ways the world's first luxury stainless steel sports watch.  It was a HUGE risk when it came out, nobody had ever seen a steel watch that cost so much before.  But it looks as if the risk has paid off ; )

39 mm in diameter and water resistant to 50 meters.  An oldie, but clearly a goodie!
