Now growing up in Northern Ohio in the dark days before cable tv became mainstream, if you wanted to watch soccer (football), your one bite at the apple was every Sunday night when you could watch the game of the week, presented by Toby Charles on Soccer Made in Germany. For all you youngsters out there, there was still a Berlin Wall and an East Germany. One of my favorite players was Felix Magath of Hamburg. The fact that I today drive a German made Volkswagen, and that he would become involved at Wolfsburg are strictly coincidental.
So it was with particular personal satisfaction that I received the news that Eterna had stepped in to help bring back reliable time keeping to one of my favorite teams!
So here's the news, straight from the press release. And remember - a day without soccer is like a big yellow card!

So here's the news, straight from the press release. And remember - a day without soccer is like a big yellow card!
The timepiece manufacturer Eterna has become the official partner of Hamburger Sportverein [HSV] with immediate effect. The Swiss timepiece manufacturer will be installing the new HSV Bundesligauhr [German premier league] clock, which is one-of-a-kind in Germany. As we’ve become accustomed to seeing, it will show the years, days, minutes and seconds of the club’s Bundesliga membership. The old HSV Bundesliga clock failed in November 2012 and could no longer be repaired. In addition to promoting the new clock, the contract, which has been concluded for two and a half years, also includes the company logo being shown on partner and sponsor boards in the VIP entrance areas, involvement in club publications and on the hsv.de website, and promotions such as PR activities with the players. The partnership was arranged by SPORTFIVE.
With Eterna as its clock partner, HSV is returning to its Bundesliga roots - back at the old Am Rothenbaum stadium, the match time was measured using an Eterna clock. According to David Vallata, Vice President, speaking on behalf of Eterna: “We feel very closely linked to Hamburg SV as a result of our shared past. After the old stadium clock failed, we felt more or less obliged to step in. We’re very proud to be installing the new Bundesliga clock and hope that it will continue to show HSV belonging to the league for the next 50 years. In addition, the Hamburg club is a perfect platform for Eterna to promote its brand in a credible and high-quality manner”.
Joachim Hilke, Marketing and Communication Director, speaking on behalf of HSV, added: “The Bundesliga clock is simply part of HSV. I’m convinced that the new clock will be a more than adequate replacement for the old stadium clock that’s been so missed by the club and by the fans. It’s all the better that with Eterna as both our new and former clock partner, a piece of HSV history can be renewed and we can welcome an important partner to our team.”
Rouven Kasper, Hamburger SPORTFIVE-Team Senior Director: “Eterna and the HSV are a perfect fit. Our historical connection has allowed us to carry out creative and extensive co-operation activities together. These activities connect HSV and Eterna with each other in a credible manner, and at the same time, give one of the oldest Swiss timepiece manufacturers the opportunity to showcase itself in a high-quality manner in the emotional HSV setting.
