Ernie Romers, Forum Master - Extraordinaire was kind enough to share this announcement with me - and thus with you! And while it is an announcement that is of particular excitement and interest to me (and I suspect you) owing to the "watch content", I am even more interested in the story behind the story. The text below is taken somewhat out of order - all credit for text in blue is to Ernie Romers, Watchuseek and Frederique Constant.
To give you a bit of background - ONE single, solitary potential customer out there wants a new watch, he wants the new Slim Line Automatic from Frederique Constant. But he has a problem -
The true story behind this special watch:
In May 2012, we came into contact with Mr. Sören Hüter who asked us to produce a special version of our Slim Line Automatic. Mr. Hüter unfortunately has a tumor that cannot be removed by operation and which is now treated by special medication. Due to this aggressive medication, Mr. Hüter is unable to wear gold watches as gold will discolor within a very short time when a gold watch is on his wrist.
The solution was to make the FC-306V4S9 Slim Line with a stainless steel case. This unique watch was produced by the Frederique Constant Service Department and delivered to Mr. Hüter.
So think about this for a moment - you want a watch made by a company that makes more than a few watches. This is not a company that specializes in "made to order". Moreover, you would be pressed to find almost anyone who would take the time to make you a one of a kind, made to order watch. But it seems that Frederique Constant is not your typical watch company.
As many as 450 people have reacted on this special version, indeed it looks very beautiful. Mr. Hüter suggested to introduce this model to other customers and we have considered this for a while. Recently, we have been in contact with Mr. Hüter again to ask his permission to proceed with the creation of the FC-306V4S6 steel version as a unique Watchuseek exclusive.
Mr. Hüter said:
Dear Mr. Stas, it's very polite of you to ask me. It shows me that you are a true gentleman. I would be delighted if you produced this watch exclusively for Watchuseek. I think this is a very good idea! And you have also my permission to publish my story of this watch.
A dream comes true

Watchuseek and Frederique Constant wish to thank Mr. Hüter for sharing his personal story and for his approval. We wish him good health for many years to come.
And again - this comes down not to a watch, but down to people. I have known Ernie for some time through my work at DOXA, and I have spoken to Mr. Stas once in the course of an interview for this blog. Here's the thing - Ernie Romers is one of the rare people in the world of the watch forums who is not only known, but liked and respected by pretty much everyone. His forum, Watchuseek.com is NOT only for the rich, for the high and mighty - it is a truly egalitarian place for watch fans to meet and share their dreams, hopes and watches.
And knowing that Mr. Stas was involved in a project like this further explains the extremely high level of engagement that his entire team not only displays, but embodies. Breguet makes a fine watch, and Hublot is very impressive - but there is something honest, sincere and VERY ENGAGING about what Frederique Constant are doing. And it seems fitting that they are partnering with Watchuseek and Ernie Romers.
Innovation is great, technological breakthroughs are sexy - but ultimately, it should be about people! A HUGE shout out to both Frederique Constant and Watchuseek for reminding us.
