GANT Rugger - Watches Should be Fun

I know that it is very easy to get wrapped-up in "exclusivity" these days.  That to me seems like such a false concept - that because it costs a lot, that makes it exclusive, and that's why you should want it.  Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of very fine, very exclusive watches out there - and that's great!  I myself own quite a few, and certainly enjoy writing about them.  But watches are not just for a select few with discerning tastes who burn countless hours reading about, researching and dreaming about them (yes - guilty as charged!)

Not everyone is:
A.  Made of money
B.  Willing to spend more than they can afford for a watch
C.  That devoted to research, etc. to look for that needle in a haystack, to find the perfect pre-owned/vintage piece.
D.  Is that interested in watches beyond they want one, want it to look good, but could care less about mechanics, haute innovation, etc. and let's be honest, thank goodness!  The world would be a pretty dull place if we all had the same hobbies and dare I say it - obsessions ; )

Enter the new L.A.S. watch from GANT Rugger- yes, it's  a mass product - but then again, so is SWATCH.  This is a very reasonably priced quartz sports watch perfect for a student or someone who is not so fussed about mechanicals, or brand names, but wants something that looks cool and has a no-fuss quartz movement.

And it is available in three different color schemes.

And because fun on the wrist shouldn't have to come at a premium price, these new watches from GANT are priced at a level most anyone could afford.

Here's the info. straight from GANT Rugger -

GANT Rugger is excited to announce the launch of its first ever wristwatch, just in time for the 2012 holiday season!

The new vintage style timepiece L.A.S. is inspired by classic diving watches of the 1970s. “The L.A.S epitomizes a style we love and it’s the only piece of jewelry any reasonably stylish man can get away with at all times,” said watch lover and GANT Creative Director Christopher Bastin, noting the timepiece references Rolex Submariners, OMEGA Speedmasters and the Tag Heuer Octavias of the period.  “It felt like the only thing missing to really complete the distinct GANT Rugger look that we have worked to perfect these past seasons.”

Crafted in line with old watch-making traditions, the L.A.S has a timeless look with a stainless steel case, a domed Plexiglas crystal and an epoxy coated rotatable bezel. It comes in three stylish shades of metallic: classic navy, stylish brown and a sporty orange. Among the watches’ distinct characteristics is the metal mesh strap, a nod to the timepiece’s vintage roots. It is delivered in a special GANT Rugger vintage Gift Box in washed military canvas that makes a handsome contrast to the steely elegance of the watch. Bastian has dedicated this watch to menswear editor and author Lawrence A. Schlossman, who knows the menswear game inside and out.

GANT Rugger’s L.A.S. watch is launching exclusively in the U.S. for the holiday season to GANT stores and on GANT.com for $225.00. The watch lands in stores across the globe in Spring 2013.
