As with a lot of the watches I get to review, sometimes 15 days just isn't enough! So with the Chinese Timekeeper, we are going into EXTRA TIME!
Speaking of time, I particularly want to speak about time-keeping. I think it is fair to say that we (as the snooty watch "know-it-alls" that we are) are very suspicious of any watch with a mechanical movement not made in Switzerland. In fairness, for the most part ETA makes quite a reliable movement. The prophets of doom have been somewhat silenced by the success of the Selita - and some of the "sexiest" independent manufacturers are turning to Soprod for the working basis of their elaborate concoctions. So the watch world, and its opinions are changing. Several companies in China have been hard at work to create better solutions than what has been previously available. It would have been easy for CTK to do everything BUT the movement as Chinese - to simply plop a "SWISS" movement in there, but the whole point of the vision was to create a watch that is 100% made in China, and to showcase the very best that China has to offer in the way of watch making know-how. And this is to be commended.
I will say that the Chinese Timekeeper model I have been testing has been running quite well. The maximum deviation I have experienced has been + 8 seconds (over this past weekend), but things have settled-down a bit and we are back to +6 per day for the past three days.
I will be wrapping this up on Saturday - with 2 more updates before then. Stay tuned!
