Something new from Zenith

This is Zenith's latest offering - The Zenith Captain Winsor!

What is truly special about this new Zenith, is how it came to be.  An annual calendar is no small accomplishment, and usually they involve A LOT of moving parts, they can be difficult to maintain and operate, and owing to this, it can become an expensive relationship to maintain - not unlike a mid-life crisis with all of the trappings ; )

But Zenith has gone the other direction.  Many readers here may recall the MIH watch, the result of Ludwig Oechslin's meditation on an annual calendar with a chronograph function.  What you may also recall is that instead of patenting it, and keeping it to himself, he made it an open platform so that it truly belonged to the world.  And Zenith, working with that design element have produced a truly remarkable masterpiece.

Here's the story from Zenith -

THE FRUIT OF COLLABORATION
BETWEEN THE MIH AND ZENITH

The possibility of integrating this complication
within the Zenith captain chronograph
stems from an agreement between
the Manufacture and the MIH, which
will in return be able to set up within its
premises two permanent exhibitions on
the theme of hours and seconds.

The “engine” powering this chronograph
expresses the full measure of Zenith’s
horological expertise: it is the famous
high-precision el Primero movement
made in-house by the Manufacture for
over 40 years.

The El Primero is the only series-produced
movement to beat at 36,000 vibrations per hour,
meaning one beat every tenth of a second.
Zenith reserves this automatic calibre for its own
timepieces. The captain Winsor model is
equipped with the automatic el Primero
calibre 4054 version, adorned with
cotes de geneve and circular-graining,
and visible through the sapphire crystal
case-back.
