LA CHAUX-DE-FONDS, August 2011 – HAUTLENCE, the Neuchâtel watchmaking brand, is moving to the heart of the industry's metropolis: La Chaux-de-Fonds. In addition, it is strengthening its position by grouping its entire contemporary watchmaking workshop under one roof from initial designs to prototypes, from R&D to machining, and from assembly to quality control. It thus unites all its talented craftsmen who are capable of challenging traditional watchmaking codes and reinterpreting the mechanics of time.

HAUTLENCE – the name is an anagram of Neuchâtel  was founded in 2004 and is now paying tribute to the cradle of watchmaking. It has brought a new dynamism to the art of watchmaking, earning the approval of collectors and watch-lovers around the world.
The brand has rejected the design codes of traditional watchmaking and draws its inspiration from the past, combining this with innovative mechanics borrowed from other areas of industry to create new approaches to reading time. In addition to designing and developing Manufacture movements, HAUTLENCE now produces some of its own components in-house following the successful integration of all departments of its contemporary watchmaking workshop under one roof, now located in the horological metropolis.
With the aim of consolidating and expanding its current and future collections, the brand has been strengthened by the decision to unite its entire talented team under one roof: HAUTLENCE, Atelier d’horlogerie contemporaine recognises the significance of the places where men and machines worked before the arrival of the machine age and the factories. To preserve and showcase the values of traditional watchmaking, the brand intends to restore these places where creativity and manufacturing blossomed side by side. 11 specialists led by Guillaume Tetu, one of the brand's founders and its current

Swiss Watchmaking
HAUTLENCE timepieces are conceived and produced in accordance with the purest Swiss watchmaking tradition. Apart from alligator straps and sapphire crystals, all their components are Swiss-made (90% in the Canton of Neuchâtel). WHY LA CHAUX-DE-FONDS?
La Chaux-de-Fonds has a worldwide reputation for watchmaking and micro-technology. Located in the Canton of Neuchâtel, it was recognised in 2009 as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its exceptional horological urban development. In the 17th century, mountain farmers began to carry out manual production of clock components during the long winters, starting the tradition of peasant-watchmakers. This continued until the 18th century, when the first workshops brought several watchmakers and machines together in the same place.
The town has a special creative atmosphere and several of its sons have made a mark on their times such as the architect Le Corbusier, the writer Blaise Cendrars and the car manufacturer Louis Chevrolet. It also attracts a host of exceptional craftsmen, particularly in the special world of watchmaking. Generations of talented artisans, who practice their arts with devotion and subtlety.
Just like HAUTLENCE.
